Psalms 71 and 72

Today’s reading in our daily plan is Psalms 71 & 72. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • The writer of Psalm 71 describes how he has trusted God throughout his life. He tells how his enemies are conspiring against him but he will always trust God.
  • Psalm 72 is written about Solomon and asks God to give him the unique ability to rule God’s people well.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • If we live our lives following God and seeing His provision for us, when times get tough we know we can still trust God. The writer of Psalm 71 is showing that in this chapter.
  • History shows us that God honored Solomon’s request to be a great king for his people. Solomon didn’t seek his own glory but instead asked to be able to help people live better lives. God honored his selfless requests.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • Have you seen God come through for you in your life? Does that help you be able to trust him more the next time you face a difficult time?
  • Do you ask God for things that will make your life better or help you get more glory? Or do you ask God to help you be able to help other people more?
