Isaiah 59

Today’s reading in our daily plan is Isaiah 59. Take a moment to pray, asking God to speak to you from this passage. Then read, using the following notes and questions to help you get everything out of the passage.

SAY WHAT? (What is the passage saying?)

  • God opens up by reminding the Israelites that He is neither limited
in power nor incapable of hearing the prayers of His people. At the time, the
Israelites may have been wondering if God was strong enough because they were
in a series of trials that He was not currently rescuing them from. God instead
places the cause of their troubles on their own continued, unrepentant sin.
  • God is displeased that He can’t find anyone He can use to
make things right, so He decides to take matters into His own hands. A picture
is painted of God putting on armor to fight His enemies, and a “Redeemer” coming
to Zion to save everyone if they repent of their sins.

SO WHAT? (What are the underlying principles?)

  • This passage dives into sin and the negative effects it has
on our relationship with God but also reveals God’s unrelenting love for us. Sin
is described as the source of death that separates us from God and the benefits
that life with Him can bring, but at the same time, God is shown tackling sin
and defeating it. The Redeemer mentioned towards the end of the chapter is
Jesus. It says that if anyone desires to be saved and turn away from a life of
sin, they can do so freely through God.

NOW WHAT? (How will you personally apply this passage?)

  • Have you chosen God? God has the power to defeat whatever
sin or hurt you may be going through. If there is a relationship in your life that is toxic, pray to Him. If you’re making the same financial mistakes again and again, pray to Him. Pray to Him if you need His strength
because He is the only true medicine that will heal the brokenness and begin to
    repair your life.
